click on the images to enlarge In Powys near Hay on Wye and the Brecon Beacons Niel Bally offers life classes and a choice of painting, printing and drawing courses from his studio set in the foot hills of the Black Mountains close to Talgarth. The classes are suitable for all levels including beginners, those preparing for art school and the more experienced. Most of the courses are concerned with working directly from the life model, still life material and the exceptional surrounding landscape. The studio is very spacious, purpose built and full of light. The house provides a relaxed environment and is secluded within a walled garden with fine views towards the Black Mountains and open countryside. The living rooms and studio have a good collection of art books and the days are punctuated by Sue Bally's refreshments and delicious home cooked lunches. All included in the £50 per day fee. TUITION Niel Bally received a traditional training from the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing in Oxford and the West Surrey College of Art and Design. Since the 1980s he has run his own courses and taught in a number of art schools and adult education colleges. Underpinning Niel's teaching abilities is a significant breadth of experience and understanding of both modern and traditional approaches to representational and abstract art. The classes are small and an important emphasis is placed on individual tuition and development. THE AREA AND LOCATION Home to Brecon Jazz, Green Man and Hay on Wye Book Festivals The area is a destination for holidays and full of activities for family members, partners or friends who wish to follow other pusuits There is walking, golf, fishing, cycling , mountain biking, pony trekking ,canoeing, sailing, indoor rope-climbing, and gliding to name but a few.
